"The Snowman"
Watercolor by Carol Hubbard, 2003
Last night, snow fell.
silently building mounds of
fresh snow on tree branches and sidewalks,
then covered the burrows of
animals sleeping for the winter.
This morning, the sun's warm glow
transformed the snow crystals
into thousands of tiny diamonds
scattered across the front yard.
The children, dressed in snowsuits,
hats, boots and mittens, hurried outside
to begin "rolling out"
the first snowman of the season.
